Ella ha sido capitán en el Ejército de los Estados Unidos, abogada litigante, y funcionaria en la Administración Clinton. Ella vive en Stanford, California, y enseña un curso de escritura en la Facultad de derecho de Stanford. Viola Canales es la autora de Orange Candy Slices and Other Secret Tales, una colección de historias.
